Before a good vacuum to your carpets is done make sure there is no furniture or any items on the carpet.
The entire room must be vacuumed this removes hair, debris dust particles, crumbs, and any other loose dirt to make the cleaning process easy
Any stubborn stains found on your carpet such as red wine pet urine lip stick must be treated carefully before you start the steam cleaning process, since vacuum works best only to remove dirt, bacteria and other debris and not difficult stains
Do not scrub the stain, as it can push them deeper into the fibre of the carpet making it difficult to remove the stain even with carpet cleaning machine.
